Welcome to Body Conditioning 50 Plus
For all of us in our 50’s and beyond: we need to start taking care of our bodies a little differently to that of our younger selves. We need to work “smarter not harder”.
By the time we reach 50 we are carrying the effects of old sporting or gardening injuries, aches and pains from sitting for to many hours over many years at our work computers, our bodies don’t seem to have the resilience, the ability to bounce back.
Here at Body Conditioning 50 plus we have put together 3-programs that we feel will be beneficial for both women and men who’ve entered their fifth decade.
Our programs are for home use requiring minimal space and equipment and once you are familiar with the exercises the routines can be adapted if you find yourself in a hotel room on holiday or work conference.
Body conditioning is more about maintaining strong healthy joints and our ability to undertake normal day to day activities. The activities of daily living all seem simple until there not. You can find out a little about my own journey in the about me section
The Activities of Daily Living:
Walking

Personal grooming
being able to stand on one foot in the shower, putting on your socks or trousers without having to sit down or cutting your toe nails, these activities require balance or the ability to fold the body, for anyone that has suffered lower back issues you know how awkward it can be to navigate wiping your own backside.
Household activities:
This includes hoovering, cleaning the bath or shower, painting a ceiling and digging in the garden.
Out and About:
carrying the groceries, picking up awkward shaped objects at the depot. Carrying your luggage at the airport, carrying your case up the stairs to the aircraft and putting the case into the overhead lockers.
All these activities require a blend of strength, flexibility, range of motion in our joints and the ability to balance.
We need to maintain or regain a well-conditioned body.

Floor sequence: Hips & Lower Back
We start flat on the floor. On our backs our bodies are brought back towards a more natural alignment which allows us to feel any asymmetries throughout the body.
By using our legs, we can gently articulate / mobilise the joints of our knees, hips and lower back and gently stretch the soft tissues of these areas.
These gentle exercises adjust the body over time to bring our bodies back to a more normal alignment.
When our body begins to feel a more natural alignment gained from floor work we will have a better understanding of our bodies alignment when we are sitting, standing and moving around.

Weight Bearing Legs Back & Shoulders
Our leg work targets primarily the knees and hips keeping these joints strong and healthy.
Back work is achieved with small amount of floor work, and the shoulder work affects our backs.
Using light weights and moving them in a circular motion we can engage multiple muscle groups, not only of the shoulder but also the back. These circular movements strengthen the rotator cuff muscles and other muscles of the shoulder, lubricate the joints and improve the range of motion.
